City of Austin Requires Energy Audit for Home Sales

One of the requirements for selling your home in City of Austin is meeting the Austin Energy Conservation and Disclosure (ECAD) Ordinance.

The original ECAD ordinance took effect June 1, 2009, for residential homeowners within the Austin city limits who obtain power from Austin Energy. The Austin City Council approved code amendments to the ECDA effective May 2, 2011.

The ordinance requires that before the sale of their home, owners of a residential building must disclose an energy audit performed on the property. An energy audit is easily obtainable through a licensed energy audit specialist.

There are exemptions so be sure to visit Austin Energy Conservation and Disclosure (ECAD) Ordinance to find out how this effects you.
